I’m originally from the UK but lived in Australia before moving with my with husband (Ed) and cat (Fish-Pie) to the Los Angeles community of Bel Air, which is where I was when I started this blog, and goes at least some way towards explaining my choice of title. At the present time I’m living in the UK city of Sheffield, in glorious South Yorkshire.
I have a passion for food, and find that it’s a great way to get to know a town, city, region or country – something that I find myself having to do on a fairly regular basis. If you’re looking for stores, markets and ingredients, interesting and pleasurable places to eat, then you have to physically explore. Looking at eating habits, recipes and the specifics of a particular cuisine can reveal much about a society and culture. In addition, sharing food is – for me – one of the great joys in life, and an excellent way to make friends.
Food is important to me in other ways too. I believe in the thoughtful production and preparation of real food, in reputable farming and in respect for the animals that we eat. Good nourishment is also crucial to my understanding of food, and must be an integral part of our eating practices as a lifestyle choice. In this regard, I draw on my academic background in nutrition and human culture (MMedSci, PhD) as I document my food adventures in Southern California, the U.S., and beyond.
Thanks for taking a look and I hope you enjoy what you find here.
Georgina
Lovely blog – glad you’re in LA too. Always nice to know of English transplants 🙂
Thanks Sophie. I was really pleased to find your fabulous blog too – as well as another English ‘alien’!
You have a lovely blog here! I loved your title too! I loved watching that fab tv-serie with Will Smith too! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog! x Greetinsg from a foodie from Belgium!
Thank you Sophie. I enjoyed watching the series as a student, and thought that the title was a bit of fun! I’m enjoying your blog too, and am sure that I’ll be making many more visits!
There must be a great story behind the name of that cat … 🙂
lol!! they’re just two of my very favourite things – fish-pie the dish, and Fish-Pie the cat (who is also rather partial to it!!)
Congratulations! You have been awarded: The Versatile Blogger Award

Bowie says “Meow!”
You’re welcome! Bowie has such a wonderfully expressive face, and your commentaries are always so entertaining. Fish-Pie (my feline friend) also says “Meow”!!
Thank you for liking my blog so that I can discover your wonderful creations over here. I love the overall green shade of your theme..
You’re welcome. And thanks for coming to visit me, too!
When I see this it just reminds of Will Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel Air, but this here is “the Princess”, so of course it’s different. I used to love watching it. Thank you so much for stopping by and liking my buttermilk scones. I have a passion for food too.
You’re welcome – your scones look really interesting.
I know it’s silly, but I couldn’t resist this name for my blog!
I don’t think it’s silly I think it’s humorous and fresh and nice. Plus it’s a unique name so nobody will ever forget your blog. I chose a very common name, (a million hits when you google) but I like it because it helps me explain what I am doing. Nobody ever asks me why am blogging once the see the name. A name is what you make it. Just focus on “making the name”. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your weekend,
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I loved your recipe for baked plums, I’ll be giving that a go when the plums are back in season.
You’re welcome – I always enjoy your posts. I hope that you like the plums when you try them.
Oh you’ve made me blush 🙂 I let you know when I’ve tried the baked plums.

You’re so welcome!
Hey there! Just discovered your blog and I love it! Great title too (I recently watched a rerun of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”). Have a beautiful weekend! Celeste 🙂
Thank you – that’s really lovely to hear (and I’m glad that you like the title too!). I hope that you continue to find something of interest here, and I’m looking forward to exploring your fascinating blog too.
We’ve been on a somewhat similar trajectory – Yorkshire, USA, Australia. I live in Kingston, Ontario – where I think I’m staying put! Though I still feel like I’ll never fully shed my Yorkshire roots. 😉
It makes for an interesting journey, doesn’t it. I don’t think I’ve reached my final destination yet, but I do think that it will be somewhere in the UK. In the meantime it’s great to explore, and I’m really enjoying South Yorkshire. Thank you for visiting my blog, and do let me know of any local / regional foods that you think I should try.
fantastic name for your blog 🙂
Thank you. I’m glad that you like it!
Dear Georgina, I love you recipes. And I hope you don’t mind me being so bold, but I’ve passed on the WordPress Family Award to you! 🙂 You can check it out here: http://sugarfreesweetheart.com/2013/12/19/passing-on-awards/
Oi! Too much typing today. I meant I love “your” recipes! 😛
Thank you so much Priya, it really is very much appreciated. I’m afraid that I’ve been really poor at formally accepting the awards that people have passed on to me in 2013, and hope (perhaps optimistically) that I’ll have more time to respond appropriately in 2014. In the meantime, please do know that I’m very pleased to receive your award. Georgina
